Heritage Resources Officer 30 Position

The Royal BC Museum seeks a Curator, History, to join its Research and Collections Management Department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the acquisition, documentation, preservation, and management of the human history collections. You will work closely with staff across departments to follow best practices and make informed decisions regarding acquisitions, care and handling, storage and access to the holdings. Your expertise in history and museum practices will be essential in conducting original and general research on the collections and areas of individual specialties to interpret and disseminate knowledge about the collections and about their discipline or specialty in relation to the collections.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Collect, preserve, and make available objects, specimens, and artifacts documenting the human and natural history of the province that meet the criteria of the Collections Strategy.
- Work with staff across departments to follow best practices and make informed decisions regarding acquisitions, care and handling, storage, and access to the holdings.
- Conduct original and general research on the collections and areas of individual specialties to interpret and disseminate knowledge about the collections and about their discipline or specialty in relation to the collections.
Requirements:
This role requires a Master's degree or Doctorate in History, with four years of museum experience. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered. You should have proficiency with community-driven project development and research, and knowledge of exhibit development methodology. The ability to interact well with the public and high proficiency in the use of museum database software for collection management will be an asset.
