Job Title: Senior GIS Specialist

This is a senior technical position within the Land Cover I Land Use Program that requires advanced knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) concepts and applications as well as excellent project, contract management and team leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical oversight, workflow management, support and problem resolution to facilitate the collection of new, and update of existing geospatial data.
  • Manage spatial databases to enable internal and external users to fulfill their business needs.
  • Work in the enterprise geospatial data environment managing versioning, replication, validation and the flow of data into, and out of, the editing and publication environments for all geospatial data related to human activity, such as roads, trails, and industrial sites.
  • Provide solutions when technical issues arise and engage in testing to prevent issues that may accompany new installations and upgrades.
  • Contribute to the design of new geodatabases, provide support for any associated web mapping sites and to provide support for automation as part of the workflow modernization process.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of ArcGIS software, such as ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and ESRI Enterprise Portal environments.
  • Experience in working with and the interpretation of aerial and satellite imagery in ArcGIS software.
Assets:
  • Proficiency in enterprise geospatial data management with an understanding of acquisition and provisioning.
  • Familiarity with anthropogenic geospatial data (i.e., roads, cutlines, trails, pipelines, power lines, railways, and facilities).
  • Proven skills in geoprocessing, scripting (i.e., Python, JavaScript, and others) and automation of GIS workflows.
  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience.
  • Contract management and procurement experience.

This position is a permanent, full-time role in Edmonton, with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
