Lead Electrical Engineer for Power Systems Design

Ausenco is a global consulting company that delivers innovative solutions to complex projects. Our Infrastructure Engineering Business line in Canada is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team in Burnaby.
About the Role- As a technical lead, you will be responsible for overseeing a group of engineers and designers on assigned projects, ensuring high-quality designs and timely delivery.
- You will review and perform electrical engineering detail design calculations, as well as design station replacement equipment for BC Hydro, such as circuit breakers and disconnects.
- Your expertise will be utilized to design and specify electric power systems and equipment for various sectors, including transportation, industrial, institutional, and public.
- You will perform engineering and electrical systems studies, design, technical evaluations, cost estimates, and options analysis for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment and systems.
- Site visits will be conducted to gather information required to initiate design, and field reviews will be performed during construction and at project end.
- You will also perform power system studies, including short circuit, load flow, coordination, arc flash, ground grid, and large MV motor starting.
- Preparation and evaluation of tender and construction packages, including drawings, equipment, and construction/installation specifications, will be an essential part of your role.
- You will review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and project documentation, in accordance with standards and QA/QC programs.
- Directing and mentoring junior staff, providing technical advice and guidance, consulting with other departments, suppliers, and contractors to clarify specifications, and preparing technical reports and tender documentation will also be key responsibilities.
- Effective communication with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions will be essential.
- You hold a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.) in Canada.
- With 5 years of experience in design of electrical systems within Utility, Municipal, and Industrial sectors, you possess the necessary skills and qualifications for this role.
- At least 2 years of experience designing BC Hydro station projects is required, along with the ability to work effectively and efficiently in teams and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills are essential, as well as computer skills and knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and engineering programs.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory codes and standards, including Canadian electrical standards and codes, is also required.

The estimated salary range for this position is $105,000 - $145,000, which varies based on factors such as qualifications, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions.
