Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Field Planner/Construction Oversight Specialist to join our team at Hydro One Networks Inc. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of environmental management principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Planning and Management
    • Develop and implement environmental management plans for construction projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
    • Conduct environmental assessments and monitoring during construction, documenting effects, mitigation, and ensuring compliance with environmental management plans and commitments.
  • Project Coordination and Oversight
    • Coordinate and oversee environmental aspects of stations and lines capital projects in the field, ensuring timely and effective implementation of environmental management plans.
    • Prepare and review Environmental Due Diligence Reports, Environmental Protection Plans/Requirements Documents, and permitting and monitoring in support of new electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
    • Engage with regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, interest groups, and members of the public to ensure effective communication and stakeholder management.
    • Prepare and present technical and organizational information to internal or external groups, including project stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
  • Contract Management and Administration
    • Tender and monitor environmental consultant contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Manage and administer environmental consultant contracts, including contract administration tasks and corrective action processes.
  • Knowledge and Experience
    • Four-year university degree in environmental studies, planning, natural sciences, or a related field.
    • Over six years (minimum) or more of relevant work experience in the environmental field, including experience conducting environmental monitoring during construction and managing environmental consultant contracts.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of effectively contributing to environmental management on large/complex infrastructure projects, including experience with environmental assessments, permitting, and monitoring.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English.
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision, with a high level of initiative and strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to assimilate new tasks/information quickly and apply the skills to various situations, with a strong understanding of business implications of decisions and the ability to strive to improve organizational performance.
    Requirements
    • Four-year university degree in environmental studies, planning, natural sciences, or a related field.
    • Over six years (minimum) or more of relevant work experience in the environmental field.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of effectively contributing to environmental management on large/complex infrastructure projects.
    • Strong understanding of environmental issues and legislative requirements, including Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Ontario Environmental Protection Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Ontario Water Resources Act, Endangered Species Act, Heritage Act, Ontario Public Lands Act, and municipal environmental development requirements.
    • Understanding of soil and groundwater assessment and management, including experience undertaking and interpreting environmental studies in one or more of the following areas: natural heritage, hydrology, hydrogeology, socioeconomic, archaeology, heritage, and related fields.
    • Experience obtaining environmental permits, licenses, and approvals (provincial, municipal, and federal) and working with associated guidelines, standards, and best practices pertaining to EA, permitting, and construction effect mitigation.
    • Experience working with regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, interest groups, and members of the public, including experience managing large-scale archaeological programs and integration of associated GIS data.
    • Ability to tender and monitor environmental consultant contracts, with a valid Ontario driver's license.
    • Strong technical writing, contract management/administration, and project management skills, with a high level of initiative, strong communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
