Job Summary:


Sème l'avenir is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Part-time Chief Financial Officer to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's finances, including financial management, contract and regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead or advise on activities related to financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, investment management, organizational risk assessment, and other aspects of organizational administration;
  • Ensure excellence in financial control and accounting, and compliance with regulatory and applicable voluntary standards;
  • Prepare budget and financial statements;
  • Provide regular updates to the Senior Management Team and the Foundation Board on the organization's financial risk profile;
  • Oversee organizational processes related to budgeting, financial reporting, and investment management;
  • Liaise with external auditors, negotiate the audit terms, and ensure the implementation of annual audits and compliance with all federal, provincial and municipal regulations;
  • Provide financial support and direction to partner organizations, as appropriate;
  • Monitor and report on Sème l'avenir's financial performance, including investment returns and other key financial metrics;
  • Work with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to develop investment policies and procedures that outline the organization's investment goals, risk tolerance, and decision-making process;
  • Remain abreast of sector best practices and oversee the development, improvement and updating of financial policies and procedures as needed;

Requirements:



  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent qualification;
  • Experience preparing financial reporting for government, philanthropic and other institutional donors in Canada and abroad;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a charitable not-for-profit environment developing and administering financial services;
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or relevant field. Masters degree or postgraduate qualification is an asset;
  • Extensive experience with Canadian financial reporting guidelines for non-profits, GAAP, and CRA regulations and guidelines;
  • Experience working with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Quickbooks Enterprise. Knowledge of DonorPerfect is an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial statements and budgets in accessible language;
  • Experience conducting financial analysis and reporting for multi-year budgets with multiple and highly diverse income streams and expense categories;
  • Oral and written fluency in English is essential; French and Spanish is an asset;
