Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Mental Health Clinician to join our team at the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work from a harm reduction, culturally safe, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and client-centered model of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial, mental health, and substance use assessments to identify client needs and develop effective treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to facilitate transitions through the continuum of services, ensuring seamless care coordination.
  • Provide consultative and direct services to clients, families, staff, and community health professionals, including preparation and maintenance of client records.
  • Utilize health management and self-care management principles to identify problems, address issues, and variances from the plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships based on respect, empathy, and understanding.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in a related health science discipline from a recognized program.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a healthcare setting, providing assessment and treatment services to individuals with complex mental health, substance use, and chronic medical concerns.
  • Current full registration with applicable regulatory College or eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body or association.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community, social, and mental health resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing culturally safe and competent care, specifically pertaining to Indigenous peoples.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify emotional, social, or environmental barriers and intervene to eliminate stigma.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict situations and aggressive behavior, using non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, families, team members, and community agency personnel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental illness, substance use, and addictions treatment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice.
