Senior Medical Underwriter

As a key member of our Underwriting team at The Emerald Group, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our business. Your primary responsibility will be to provide fair and balanced underwriting decisions, utilizing the appropriate amount of evidence necessary to assess medical and financial risks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwriting Decisions: You will assess all applications that aren't accepted by our online underwriting engine, providing accurate and timely decisions.
  • Risk Assessment: You will evaluate medical and financial risks, ensuring that our customers receive the best possible coverage.
  • Customer Service: You will provide a telephone service for pre-sale enquiries, being the first point of contact for our advisers and providing accurate indications of underwriting decisions.
  • Collaboration: You will work closely with Customer Services, Pricing, Sales, and reinsurance partners to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Professional Development: You will develop a good understanding of our business and contribute to 'best practice' overall for our customers and colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Proven working and higher-level knowledge of Income Protection, Life, Critical Illness, and disability products.
  • At least seven years' experience of underwriting and a current working underwriting authority of a minimum of £1.5m Life, £675,000 Critical Illness, and £60,000pa Income Protection.
