Job Title: Education Assistant III

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Education Assistant III to join our team at the Burnaby School District #41. As an Education Assistant III, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with ASD, including personal care assistance and physical assistance as needed.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), positive behavior support plans, and safety plans.
  • Reinforce the educational program by tutoring, adapting, or modifying classroom materials to meet the specialized needs of students with ASD.
  • Collect assessment data and utilize data to document progress and inform decision-making regarding student goals and objectives.
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a Certificate/Diploma with a focus on empirically supported approaches to supporting students with ASD or an equivalent certification plus 1,000 hours of home team/Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) training and work experience documented by a Professional Consultant.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of ASD and characteristics of effective interventions such as ABA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students with ASD.
  • Working knowledge of adaptive/assistive technology related to the work performed, including computers, wheelchairs, and medical equipment.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) would be an asset.
