We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Director of our Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI). As a key member of our research and innovation ecosystem, the successful candidate will be responsible for advancing CAAI's reputation and evolution as a leading research and innovation centre supporting the application of artificial intelligence across all sectors.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership for CAAI, leveraging advanced understanding of global innovation in AI technologies and workflows across diverse industry sectors.
- Guide the Centre's operations, with particular responsibility for financial viability through revenue generation from grants and contracts for applied research, training, and other innovation supports.
- Steward external partnerships and business development, cultivating applied research, training, and other innovation support partnerships with industry and community partners, funding agencies, and other academic institutions.
- Lead the CAAI team, optimizing performance and professional capacity through effective recruiting, workflow/project planning, faculty and student mentorship, and employee development and performance management.
- Engage with other research and entrepreneurship centres at Sheridan, the Faculties, and the Generator Support Office to grow Sheridan's innovation ecosystem and meet the needs of our partners and communities.
- Master's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, software engineering, or other related field.
- 7 years of significant work experience in a related, relevant area of focus (equivalency will be considered).
- Deep knowledge of artificial intelligence and broad and in-depth knowledge of current and emerging trends in its application across multiple sectors.
- Capacity to develop and execute research projects and demonstrated experience in a research and development environment.
- Business and partnership development experience.
- Grant writing and administration experience.
- Experience addressing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion within organizational development and meeting community needs through partnerships and projects.
- Experience with financial budgeting, management, and reporting.
- Thorough knowledge of research funding landscape in Ontario and Canada.
