About the Role:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to join our team at BC Cancer. As a Unit Clerk, you will play a critical role in providing administrative support to our healthcare team, ensuring the smooth operation of our unit and providing exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transcribe and process clinician orders, completing and forwarding requisitions for tests or services, and communicating various information according to procedure.
- Organize diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients by coordinating numerous interrelated appointments, preparing and communicating related instructions to patients, and gathering patient information for medical appointments.
- Perform a variety of receptionist duties, including greeting and registering patients, supporting wayfinding, answering the telephone/switchboard, and responding to inquiries.
- Participate in the onboarding and orientation of staff, demonstrating work procedures, and answering related queries.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to safety policies and standards and emergency procedures.
- Participate as a collaborative member of the healthcare team.
Requirements:
- Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to keyboard 40 wpm.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
