Job Title: Multimedia Journalist - Chemainus Courier/Ladysmith Chronicle

We are seeking a talented and motivated journalist to uncover impactful community stories in Chemainus and Ladysmith.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research and write compelling news stories, features, and human-interest pieces that resonate with the community.
  • Capture high-quality photographs and videos to enhance storytelling and engage readers.
  • Conduct interviews with community members, local officials, and subject matter experts to gather information and provide balanced, accurate coverage of news events and issues.
  • Collaborate with editors, fellow journalists, and other team members to brainstorm story ideas, coordinate coverage, and ensure timely publication of content.
  • Stay informed about local events, trends, and developments in Ladysmith and Chemainus, proactively seeking out story opportunities and pitching ideas to editors.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and journalistic principles, including accuracy, fairness, and objectivity, in all aspects of reporting and storytelling.
Requirements:
  • Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with community members, local officials, and subject matter experts.
  • Proficiency in photography and videography, with the ability to capture high-quality images and footage.
