Job Title: Associate Trial Lawyer

At Tlaonline, we're committed to protecting our customers' interests and providing exceptional service. As an Associate Trial Lawyer, you'll play a key role in our Claims Litigation Team, working closely with Senior Lawyers to manage files from inception to resolution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review new file assignments and draft initial pleadings, preparing discovery as needed.
  • Prepare for and attend case conferences, questionings, mediations, pre-trials, and trials, utilizing your analytical skills to inform sound decision-making.
  • Perform due diligence, gathering relevant facts and documents, and collaborating with clients, paralegals, and/or other lawyers to assess files.
  • Research and determine applicable laws, statutes, regulations, rules, and other legal authority, identifying legal issues and summarizing relevant information.
  • Monitor and review new laws, regulations, and case law, providing advice and counsel to the business unit on their impact on business.
  • Provide advice and/or legal approval related to company documents, policy, practices, and procedures.
  • Draft, review, and/or negotiate basic matters, utilizing your technical, drafting, reporting, and research skills.
  • Respond to claims inquiries, exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Gather facts from clients to understand their goals and objectives, working with business colleagues to develop and implement change.
Requirements:
  • Must have a Law Degree and be a member of the Law Society in good standing.
  • 3+ years experience working in a similar role with an Insurance Defence firm; Personal Injury & Accident Benefit experience is an asset.
  • Experience with issue management, analytical skills, and the ability to influence others.
  • Excellent technical, drafting, reporting, and research skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer skills including MS Office Suite, with the ability to interact well with all levels of the organization.
