Infrastructure Architect Role Summary

The Infrastructure Architect will play a key role in planning and ensuring that investments in infrastructure technology meet both current and future business requirements, providing the best return on investment (ROI) to the corporation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop and maintain the infrastructure architecture blueprint to support current and future business growth, delivering the lowest possible total cost of ownership (TCO) on technical infrastructures and the highest possible ROI on infrastructure investment.

2. Manage the infrastructure architecture knowledge base, including current and target infrastructure inventory and schematics, migration paths, platform interfaces, systems management principles, and standards.

3. Provide high-level solution design, cost estimates, and recommendations for new technology implementations and changes to existing technology, assisting with the documentation of implementation steps.

4. Participate in project work and day-to-day IT operations initiatives to ensure consistent application and implementation of infrastructure architecture recommendations, standards, and guidelines.

5. Research and provide decision papers to substantiate technology decisions, providing third-level support for significant technology changes and production issues.

6. Stay current on industry standards and practices for IT infrastructure implementation, maintenance, and monitoring through research and attendance at industry and user conferences.

Competency Requirements:

1. At least 10 years of industry experience in designing, developing, deploying, and supporting technical infrastructure in a large-scale enterprise, with experience in mainframe and multi-tiered architecture integration and deployment, network design, monitoring tools, interfaces, connectivity to heterogeneous environments, and capacity planning.

2. In-depth understanding and hands-on experience in implementing large-scale multi-tiered architecture, as well as ongoing monitoring, support, and maintenance.

3. Demonstrated ability to work with and mentor other IT technical staff, with well-developed presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.

4. Ability to focus on the long-term plan while providing recommendations and design for near-term deliverables, with the ability to get results through motivation and influence without direct authority over staff.

5. Ability to manage time and priorities across several initiatives, with formal computer technology training, a university degree or college diploma with a major in computer science, or completion of specialized technology programs, and relevant industrial certification and accreditation.

6. Our key data processing environments include IBM mainframe, UNIX - J2EE, IBM WAS, DB2, WIN OS - .NET, SQL Server, and FileNet.
