About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at Banque Nationale. As a key member of our Legal Affairs department, you will play a critical role in providing expert legal advice and support to our business lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel and support to our business lines on a wide range of matters, including vulnerable individuals, powers of attorney, trusts, estates, and incapacity.
  • Develop and maintain tools and training programs related to vulnerable individuals.
  • Analyze legal, regulatory, and financial aspects of complaints, identify and assess risks, and provide recommendations to business lines.
  • Collaborate with business lines to negotiate settlements and resolve disputes.
  • Provide expert legal advice on various aspects of law and regulation.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders on complaint-related matters.
About the Team

You will be part of a dynamic team of over 30 colleagues in our Legal Affairs department, reporting to the Vice-President, Client Relations and Complaints. You will work closely with our Director responsible for vulnerable individuals.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in law and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with membership in good standing with the Quebec Bar or Quebec Notary Chamber.
  • Experience/knowledge of general and legal concepts related to vulnerable individuals, including vulnerability, financial abuse, and fraud, as well as powers of attorney, trusts, estates, and incapacity.
  • Experience/knowledge in securities.
  • Knowledge of Common Law is an asset.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
