Scotiabank is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director, Global Governance and Controls to join our Global Banking and Markets team. As a key member of our Internal Control team, you will play a critical role in driving our change agenda and ensuring that change is managed to a defined methodology and standard.
Key Responsibilities:- Work with regional internal control teams, GBM business stakeholders, and risk partners to implement programs and projects that deliver new and enhanced control processes, procedures, and tools.
- Assist the Director, Global Governance and Controls in responding to ad-hoc requests and initiatives, ensuring global consistency and sustainability of solutions.
- Assess escalated issues and work with key stakeholders to develop remediation and appropriate solutions.
- Apply project management expertise to ensure that change is managed to a defined lifecycle, with appropriate governance, documentation, and reporting.
- Support and execute upon the GBM Internal Controls strategy and drive the business' change agenda.
- Lead governance forums (meetings, working groups) related to the project portfolio.
- Ensure senior management is informed to drive effective decision-making.
- Prioritize within and across the book of work.
- Understand the Internal Controls mandate globally and its fit within the broader business and regulatory context.
- Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Business or Finance.
- Minimum 5 years of Capital Markets experience in Compliance, Operations, or relevant audit/regulatory experience covering a wide range of product/business areas.
- Knowledge of the Canadian and global capital markets.
- Firm understanding of Risk Management frameworks and related policies.
- Previous experience in managing regulatory and/or other cross-functional change initiatives and regulatory reform initiatives in a Banking Environment.
- Understanding of regulatory governance and the three lines of defense model.
- Excellent judgment and business acumen, particularly around escalation and prioritization.
- Expert analytic and problem-solving capability.
- Proven track record of meeting deliverables and operating under tight timelines.
- Leadership experience in a team or project management environment.
- Ability to balance competing or conflicting goals of various departments/stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in a team environment under tight deadlines.
