About the Role

Mila, a global hub in artificial intelligence, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Learning and Development to lead the institute's efforts in developing comprehensive learning programs and training initiatives that contribute to the upskilling of a highly qualified and diverse workforce at Mila and in the Canadian AI ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educational Strategy
    • Develop and execute Mila's educational strategy in alignment with the institute's mission and objectives;
    • Identify key areas of focus for learning and training programs that address current and future needs in the field of AI and that build capacity to encourage responsible AI development;
    • Develop a strategy to sustainably scale existing learning programs by increasing impact and reach.
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Lead and inspire a diverse team of program managers, coordinators, and learning designers;
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement;
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, facilitating professional growth and development.
  • Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance
    • Design innovative and engaging curriculum for various learning programs, including workshops, courses, boot camps, and online resources;
    • Monitor program outcomes, collect feedback, and implement improvements based on evaluation data and industry best practices;
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance program effectiveness and reach a diverse audience of learners.
  • Community and Ecosystem Support
    • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for learners across all programs;
    • Implement initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within Mila's learning community and in Canada's AI ecosystem.
  • Partnership Development
    • Cultivate strategic partnerships with academic institutions, industry organizations, and government agencies to enhance Mila's educational offerings and expand its reach;
    • Collaborate on joint initiatives and seek funding opportunities.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience relevant to the position;
  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant or related field (e.g., education, computer science, data science, organizational development, business administration);
  • Proven leadership abilities and experience leading learning and development initiatives and curriculum development;
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence, responsible AI, AI adoption, and innovation;
  • Familiarity with the Canadian AI ecosystem is a strong asset;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills;
  • Experience working in a research or academic environment is preferred;
  • Be bilingual, as you will be interacting with some of our English-speaking partners, stakeholders, and members of the academic community;
  • Passion for education, learning, and the advancement of AI technology.
