Community Mental Health Nurse, Aboriginal Focus

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health. As an Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician, you will provide clinical mental health nursing services to Aboriginal clients in community programs, working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team to provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care.
Key Responsibilities- Provide clinical mental health nursing services to Aboriginal clients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
- Work closely with the interprofessional care team to develop and implement care plans that meet the unique needs of Aboriginal clients
- Provide education and support to clients and their families, promoting cultural sensitivity and understanding
- Collaborate with community agencies and organizations to enhance and develop new Aboriginal mental health services
- Develop and deliver educational events and workshops that are culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of Aboriginal clients
- Provide crisis intervention and short-term follow-up services as needed
- Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, and interventions according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing
- Two years' recent related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders, including one year of experience working with Aboriginal clients
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultural practices and beliefs with reference to mental health status
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, families/care givers, and members of the interprofessional care team
- Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for clients/families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, including advocacy for special populations
