Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Procurement and Contracting Officer to join our team at the University of Guelph. As a key member of our Procurement Operations department, you will be responsible for providing procurement and contract services that meet the highest standards of quality and adhere to the Broader Public Sector (BPS) Procurement Directive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain purchase orders, review contracts and agreements, and prioritize daily requisitions and other requests.
  • Determine compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, obtain quotes, and find suitable supply sources.
  • Manage supplier relationships, perform analysis, and recommend purchasing plans for improvements as required.
  • Maintain complete purchasing records, conduct competitive sourcing events, and assist clients in understanding purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, identify non-compliance issues, and develop resolutions.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require a two-year community college diploma in a related field and a minimum of three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in purchasing or supply chain management in a large complex public institute is preferred.

You will also require technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and demonstrated knowledge of larger ERP systems, preferably Oracle Purchasing. Additionally, you will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of purchasing, sourcing, and contract management principles, best practices, and techniques.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment, are essential for this role. A high degree of motivation and drive, along with the ability to multi-task and problem-solve, are also required.
