Job Summary:
As a Technical Specialist - HVAC, you will be responsible for designing and conducting experimental programs, accurately obtaining and recording data, and fabricating experimental apparatus. You will also perform R&D assignments that are not standardized or prescribed, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and provide oral and written status reports.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a wide range of test procedures on equipment to applicable standards and interpret results.
- Determine and review required tests, order in which to perform tests, and number of samples needed.
- Perform tests and calculations, compile data, and summarize test results into test reports and checklists.
- Determine whether a product passes or fails subject to review by Certifier/Reviewer.
- Assemble and disassemble test samples, hook up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing, and operate most laboratory test equipment without supervision.
- Maintain good housekeeping of tools, equipment, and work area following tests and carry out assigned laboratory clean-up duties.
- Record technical data and draft reports.
- Perform mathematical calculations required to summarize test results as applicable.
- Relate test results to product specifications.
- Act as liaison with other departments as required by Lab Manager.
- Note and record discrepancies or characteristics of products which may appear before or during tests and refer them to Sr. Lab Tech, Certifier, or Manager.
- Analyze complex devices and equipment to determine compliance to applicable requirements.
- Contribute to development and implementation of requirements for new and/or revised standards as required.
- Interact with Certifier to plan activities, exchange information, review, and approve lab reports and certification records.
- Maintain and initiate direct certifier contact to provide information and answer questions or obtain more product information.
- Test to certifier's requests and provide general and specific information about certification testing process or status of work order to assist certifier and improve overall customer service and satisfaction.
- Provide certifier with detailed interpretation of test results and construction evaluation and how it applies to status of their certification.
- Perform witness testing as required by Lab Tech III or Manager.
Salary Range:
The estimated salary for this position is between $65,000 and $90,000 per year, depending on experience.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you should possess a 3-year Technical Certificate or equivalent education and experience, or an Associate's degree in Engineering Technology. Additionally, you should have 5-8 years of related experience and hold a Refrigeration license (313A or 313D) and Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate. You should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in Microsoft Suite and test equipment-based software.
