About the Opportunity

The Public Health Nurse is an integral member of a collaborative Public Health team responsible for delivering programs and services in accordance with NS Public Health Standards and Protocols. This role requires a holistic understanding of individuals and communities to inform policy and program development, implementation, and assessment.

Reporting to the Public Health Manager, the Public Health Nurse works in collaboration with others to address local population health needs by planning, implementing, and evaluating public health policies, programs, and services based on population health principles, health promotion, and disease prevention.

About You

We are seeking a qualified candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BScN) and registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in Public Health or Community Health, with 2 years preferred
  • Certificate in Public Health Nursing is an asset
  • Nova Scotia Public Health Immunization Certification or willingness to complete
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Health Protection Act and other relevant Regulations, Legislation, and Acts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of population health, health inequities, social determinants of health, social justice, and health emergency preparedness and disaster response
  • Understanding of population health, health promotion, and development, with the ability to apply them in community settings, including partnership development
  • Critical thinking skills, including clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, and strong decision-making abilities
  • Alignment with EDIRA principles (equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation, and accessibility) and ARAO principles (anti-racism and anti-oppression)
  • Ability to lift program equipment, such as large vaccine coolers (approximately 18 kgs/40lbs)
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, including French, Arabic, Mandarin, Dari, Russian, and Ukrainian
Hours
  • Permanent, temporary assignments, and casual relief opportunities are available in various locations throughout Nova Scotia
  • Candidates will have the opportunity to specify their location preferences in the application
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is required for travel between various sites within the zone
Compensation and Benefits

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary of $43.57 - $54.12 per hour, with the possibility of up to $56.01 per hour with 25 years of nursing experience

Additionally, the successful candidate may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan
