The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced corporate regulatory lawyer to join our team as Vice-President and Assistant General Counsel. As a key member of our Corporate Law team, you will provide legal and regulatory counsel to all functions of Zurich Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and provide legal advice on a wide range of legal matters, including data protection, privacy, and employment law.
  • Provide advice on insurance laws and regulations, including licensing matters, product development, and reinsurance.
  • Assist the business in responding to Federal/Provincial regulatory consultations and data calls, and assist with the business implementation of new regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify key legal/regulatory risks and provide related training and support to the business.
  • Develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Federal and Provincial regulators.
  • Participate in various committees and working groups of insurance industry associations.
Requirements
  • LL.B/Juris Doctor and a member in good standing with a Canadian Professional Law Society.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the Legal area.
  • Strong corporate/commercial background together with insurance law and regulation experience in Canada.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions and legal matters simultaneously and independently prioritize work.
  • A self-starter, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Insurance Industry experience.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • French language skills would be considered an asset.
