About the Role

Synapse International is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team in Canada. This is a fully remote position with EST working hours, and we welcome candidates from all provinces.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and self-motivated individual with extensive experience in software development principles, cloud technologies, and soft skills. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development of our products, ensuring code quality and governance, and collaborating with the project team to guide them through the entire development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Proactively collaborate with the project team to develop products using your expertise to guide the team through the entire development lifecycle.
  2. Ensure code quality and governance.
  3. Ensure engineers follow established patterns and designs.
  4. Plan, estimate, and contribute to the architecture, coding, and development.
  5. Refactor and continuously improve codebases.
  6. Communicate technical decisions and information to the global team.
  7. Take responsibility for releases and contribute to ongoing support of live apps.
  8. Get involved with the deployment and operation of the software we build (DevOps).
  9. Deliver fair outcomes for our customers, ensuring conduct maintains a high level of professionalism.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  1. Strong Java development experience (6+ years).
  2. Experience with AWS cloud environment (4+ years).
  3. Experience with using and/or configuring CI/CD pipelines.
  4. Experience building scalable software services (e.g., serverless, microservices).
  5. Strong OOD skills; knowledge of design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  6. Strong database modeling skills; experience with both relational and NoSQL databases.
  7. Experience working directly with clients and other project stakeholders to define and refine requirements.
  8. Strong English skills (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
  2. Experience with event-driven architectures: principles and implementation.
  3. Experience with DDD.
  4. Experience with TDD.
  5. Experience with using and/or configuring CI/CD pipelines.
