Job Summary

Milton Hydro is seeking a skilled Powerline Technician to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the construction, maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of our electric distribution system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Construct, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot the electrical distribution system, including overhead and underground lines of various voltages.
  • Perform live line work on overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.
  • Erect poles and associated structures for power lines.
  • Build, repair, and operate underground cables and equipment.
  • Work within substations and install conductors and associated apparatus.
  • Perform assigned maintenance work, troubleshoot, and restore electric power during emergencies.
  • Operate motorized vehicles and equipment, including boom trucks.
  • Install single-phase meter equipment and perform line clearing duties as required.
  • Solve routine problems and perform on-call duties.
  • Comply with the construction verification program and CVOR checks/logs.
  • Track personal job hours for timesheets and work within the utility work protection code.
  • Mentor and train apprentices and provide input on their evaluation.
Requirements
  • The MEARIE Group Journeyperson Power Line Technician Certificate or recognized equivalent.
  • The Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities Power Line Technician Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Full certification in the Ontario Utility Work Protection Code (or willing and able to acquire within six months and maintain).
  • Working knowledge of the Electrical Utility Safety Rules and industry safe work practices.
  • Proficient in the use of all tools and equipment associated with the trade.
  • Valid Class "D" driver's license with "Z" endorsement.
  • Able to work from work orders, specifications, standards, and instructions and to interpret prints, sketches, and diagrams.
  • Strong communicator, excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills.
  • A level of physical fitness essential to do the work, including the ability to climb and work confidently at heights, and the willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
