Job Description

This permanent position involves supporting Life Extension Projects and New Build projects as a technical role in the design and analysis of feeder piping, feeder supports, and feeder in-line components. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and capable of working independently or under senior technical engineer instruction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients, suppliers, stakeholders, and other design disciplines or departments to execute assigned engineering work.
  • Contribute to conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of CANDU or Nuclear process systems and modifications.
  • Prepare detailed designs of piping supports, pipe sizing, and piping and equipment layout with review in S3D, Navisworks Simulate, Smart Plant Review.
  • Develop engineering computations and analyses using applicable software (e.g., PipeStress, CaesarII, AutoPipe, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Mechanical, LSDYNA).
  • Model complex piping and support arrangements using finite element techniques.
  • Perform pipe stress evaluation of piping systems (nuclear class or non-nuclear class) in accordance with ASME Section III, Div.1.
  • Conduct thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear, and non-linear analyses in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Div.1.
  • Prepare technical documents, including engineering drawings, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, data sheets, system classification lists, code classifications, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
  • Review supplier technical documents and perform technical bid analyses.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters and more junior staff as required.
  • May lead technical packages with a small or large team of Designers and Stress Analysts.
Required Skills and Qualifications

We seek an experienced Lead Piping Systems Engineer with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). A minimum of 10 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment like nuclear, mining, oil & gas, power, etc., is mandatory. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of mechanical and piping systems or equipment, preferably CANDU nuclear systems, and design engineering experience in nuclear class 2, 3, and 6 piping systems, valves, pumps, and for Nuclear Power Plants. Familiarity with stress analysis using PipeStress, CeasarII, AutoPipe, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Mechanical, and LSDYNA or similar software programs is an asset.
