Scope of the Role

The Manager of Labour Relations will lead a team of HR professionals, providing specialized advice, services, and support in labour relations, compensation, and disability management. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, this role will be responsible for:

  • Leading and providing expert guidance to a team of HR Advisors, Workplace Health Specialists, and a Compensation Specialist.
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans for collective bargaining and leading negotiation of collective agreements.
  • Assisting management in resolving labour relations issues, grievance procedures, and arbitration.
  • Fostering positive and collaborative labour management relations.
  • Developing and overseeing corporate HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation.
  • Managing compensation functions, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, and analysis.
  • Ensuring compensation programs and policies comply with legislative requirements.
  • Staying informed of best practices and trends in labour relations, disability management, and compensation.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, with a minimum of 7-10 years of related HR, labour relations, and compensation experience (preferably in a public sector union environment).
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of professional employees.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment law, labour law, Human Rights legislation, and collective agreements.
  • Strong ability to build and enhance strategic partnerships with managers, unions, and employees.
  • Exceptional negotiation and mediation skills with a proven track record in resolving grievances.
  • Excellent written skills for drafting contract and policy language.
  • Proficiency in complex data analysis and research.
  • Experience in managing HR projects and programs, and developing and delivering training to managers.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
