Job Title: Special Education Teacher

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Coast Tsimshian Academy. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs and helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and goals.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assess student progress, track performance, and make data-driven decisions to inform instruction.
  • Facilitate IEP meetings, create behavior plans, and work with guardians/teachers to establish SMART goals.
  • Design and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with BC Ministry of Education standards.
  • Evaluate student performance using various methods, including observation, performance-based tasks, and standardized tests.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive classroom environment, promoting positive interactions and addressing behaviors that deviate from school policy.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student schedules, assignments, events, and individual needs, meeting with them during scheduled conferences.
Requirements:
  • BC Teacher Certification specializing in Special Education.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing IEPs, SMART goals, and behavior plans.
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in a First Nations school.
  • Strong knowledge of the new BC Ed curriculum and other educational programs.
  • Innovative, creative, and resourceful approach to teaching and learning.
  • Motivational and behavioral techniques to support diverse learners.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills to accommodate multi-grades and diverse needs.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations.
  • Full COVID vaccination and compliance with public health orders and Band policies.
  • General knowledge of the educational system, learning techniques, socialization processes, attitudes, values, aspirations, and expectations of the Lax Kw'alaams Band.
  • Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability, with strong communication skills.
