Job Summary

Nexgen HR Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team in a collaborative team environment. As a Special Education Teacher, you will work closely with classroom teachers, counselors, and other support workers to provide individualized educational programs for students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs): Work with other staff members to create and implement IEPs that cater to each student's unique needs and goals.
  • Assess and Track Student Progress: Regularly assess students' performance and track their progress throughout the year to ensure they meet their IEP goals.
  • Observe and Document Learner Strengths and Needs: Observe and document students' strengths, achievements, and needs through daily learning activities and functional assessment activities.
  • Facilitate IEP Meetings and Create Behaviour Plans: Facilitate IEP meetings and create behaviour plans that support students' social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Work with Guardians and Teachers to Create SMART Goals: Collaborate with guardians and teachers to create SMART goals that align with students' IEPs and promote their academic and personal growth.
  • Create Daily Lesson Plans: Develop daily lesson plans that align with BC Ministry of Education standards and cater to students' diverse needs.
  • Evaluate Student Performance: Evaluate students' performance on tasks established by the standards using various methods such as observation, performance-based tasks, or standard test practices.
  • Maintain a Safe and Supportive Classroom Environment: Create a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom environment that promotes positive interactions and addresses behaviours that are not in line with the school policy.
  • Communicate with Parents: Regularly communicate with parents about students' schedules, assignments, events, and individual needs, and meet with parents during scheduled conferences.
Requirements
  • BC Teacher Certification in Special Education: Possess a valid BC Teacher Certification specializing in Special Education.
  • IEP, SMART Goal, and Behaviour Plan Development Experience: Have in-depth knowledge of IEP, SMART goal, and behaviour plan development and implementation.
  • Teaching Experience: Possess a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in a First Nations school.
  • Knowledge of BC Ed Curriculum and Educational Programs: Have in-depth knowledge of the new BC Ed curriculum and other educational programs.
  • Strong Organizational and Planning Skills: Possess strong organizational and planning skills to accommodate multi-grades and diverse student needs.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check: Possess a clear criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations.
  • COVID Vaccination: Be fully COVID vaccinated and remain in full compliance with all public health orders and Band policies throughout employment.
  • General Knowledge of Educational System and Learning Techniques: Possess general knowledge of the educational system, learning techniques, socialization processes, attitudes, values, aspirations, and expectations of the Lax Kw'alaams Band.
  • Professionalism, Punctuality, Flexibility, and Reliability: Demonstrate a proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability, with strong communication skills.
