Environmental Restoration Leadership Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to lead our ecology projects from our Edmonton office. This full-time, permanent position involves overseeing ecological assessments, inventory programs, restorations, studies, environmental regulatory applications, and related projects. The work is team-based, safety-driven, and focuses on delivering high-quality results for clients in the energy, forestry, government, and private sectors throughout Alberta and BC.

Position Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and efficient project execution;
  • Lead and manage project deliverables, collaborating with Woodlands' peers and management, regulators, and clients;
  • Develop senior-level business strategies;
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and best practices;
  • Support our mobile technologies, spatial data integrity, and web-enabled dashboards;
  • Provide senior ecology review of reports and data analysis;
  • Support mentorship and inspire professional growth among Woodlands employees.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Familiarity with current restoration best management practices for watercourse, wetland, and watershed restoration, as well as terrestrial habitat restoration of linear features like legacy roads and seismic projects;
  • Current knowledge of best practices and regulatory requirements;
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Ecology, Forestry, Biology, Engineering, or a related field with an environmental focus;
  • Professional registration with good standing in one of Alberta's Professional Regulatory Organizations;
  • Experience as an Authenticating Wetland Professional and as a Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist;
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience;
  • Advanced technical writing, data analysis, reporting, and communication skills;
  • GIS and geospatial data analysis knowledge or experience is considered an asset;
  • Previous teaching experience in data or ecological subjects is considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated leadership, quality, safety, and customer service focus.
