Lead Ecologist Position

We are currently seeking a seasoned professional to oversee ecology projects based out of our Edmonton office. This is a full-time permanent position focused on leading ecological assessments, inventory programs, restorations, studies, environmental regulatory applications, and related projects.

The successful candidate will have expertise in current restoration best management practices for watercourse, wetland, and watershed restoration as well as terrestrial habitat restoration of linear features such as legacy roads and seismic.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for safe and efficient project work;
  • Lead and manage project deliverables and working relationships with Woodlands' peers and management, regulators, and clients;
  • Provide senior direction for business strategy development;
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and best management practices;
  • Support mobile technologies, spatial data set integrity, and web-enabled dashboards;
  • Provide senior ecology review of reports and data analysis;
  • Support mentorship and inspire the professional development of Woodlands employees.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Ecology, Forestry, Biology, Engineering, or other program with an environmental focus;
  • Professional registration with good standing in one of Alberta's Professional Regulatory Organizations;
  • 10+ years of relevant experience;
  • Advanced technical writing, data analysis, reporting, and communication skills;
  • Knowledge of GIS and geospatial data analysis is considered an asset;
  • Previous teaching experience with data or ecological subjects is considered an asset;
  • Able to demonstrate leadership, quality, safety, and customer service focus.
Salary and Benefits
