Commercial Insurance Underwriter

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter, Commercial Insurance to join our team at Wawanesa Insurance. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for analyzing business risks and making informed decisions to ensure the success of our clients.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze business risks using technology and external data sources to inform pricing, negotiation, and risk acceptance decisions.
- Conclude agreements with reinsurers or underwriters as needed.
- Determine policy renewal eligibility based on company guidelines and customer retention objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of decisions made and preserve policy data integrity.
- Communicate decisions and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Act as an expert in policy, process, regulation, and verification within the insurance industry.
- Counsel and train junior team members.
- Participate in regular quality assurance reviews.
- Support organizational change management.
- Ensure the effective execution of assigned tasks, including calls.
- Influence team members and provide a short-term direction that aligns with team objectives.
- Foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including networking at industry events.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Five years of experience in the property and casualty insurance industry.
- Post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
- Professional designation in property and casualty insurance or commitment to obtaining one.
- Practical knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite.
- Attention to detail and ability to thoroughly and exhaustively review information.
- Excellent decision-making skills, including the ability to provide reasons for decisions.
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to persuade through presentation.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, including the ability to find and apply solutions.
- Ability to adapt to change and work effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to execute multiple tasks simultaneously and track progress to meet deadlines.
- Bilingualism (written and spoken)
