About the Role

At Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health, we're committed to providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Professional Breastfeeding Specialist, you'll play a vital role in promoting and supporting breastfeeding practices that improve population health outcomes.

You'll collaborate with our Early Years team to educate families and front-line staff on the importance of breastfeeding and healthy infant feeding practices. Your expertise will be invaluable in helping us reduce health inequities and provide high-quality care to our patients.

Your Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Early Years team to promote breastfeeding and healthy infant feeding practices
  • Provide consultative services, education, orientation, and mentorship to families and front-line staff
  • Act as a specialist resource for complex lactation and feeding challenges
  • Engage with local community and healthcare partners to build capacity and promote best practices related to infant feeding
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare-related discipline (Dietician, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, or Registered Nurse)
  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant Certification or ability to obtain within 3 years of employment
  • Minimum one year related experience required
  • Experience providing direct breastfeeding/infant feeding support and education
About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate about breastfeeding and infant feeding, and has a strong background in healthcare. If you have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Critical thinking skills including judgement, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated cultural humility, and respect for diversity, including the ability to support clients from various cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and differing values
  • Valid NS Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Compensation and Benefits

The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary of $32.32 - $40.61 per hour. Our benefits package includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
