Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Legal Leader to join our team as General Counsel. In this role, you will provide strategic legal advice to CIC and the CIC Board of Directors on matters including commercial transactions, procurement, and contract management.

About the Role

As General Counsel, you will report to the Vice President, Crown Services, and work with a high level of independence to proactively identify and manage legal risks and issues for CIC and the Crown sector in Saskatchewan. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your management skills, including the ability to lead, manage, and grow people, supporting a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Formulate legal strategies and options, identifying and analyzing potential liabilities, assessing risks, and developing mitigation strategies on matters relevant to CIC and the Crown sector.
  • Lead and collaborate with Crown sector General Counsels, Executive Government colleagues, and relevant stakeholders on complex business issues, strategic initiatives, and other matters impacting the Crown sector and Government of Saskatchewan.
  • Provide strategic legal advice and manage the provision of legal services to CIC and the CIC Board of Directors on matters including commercial transactions, procurement, and contract management.
  • Develop frameworks and provide oversight to policies relevant to CIC and the Crown sector.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor Degree and be a member of The Law Society of Saskatchewan (LSS) or eligible for immediate enrolment as a member; with at least ten (10) years of experience in private practice, as corporate in-house counsel, or as public sector legal counsel, in areas relevant to CIC and the broader Crown sector in Saskatchewan.

You will receive a competitive salary of $250,000 - $350,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits.
