We are seeking an exceptional Controller to join our team at The Briere Group of companies. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting and the integrity of our internal controls.
About the Role:
As a Controller, you will have the rare opportunity to build financial processes and reporting from the ground-up. You will work closely with our customers, vendors, sales, operations, and executive teams to ensure the smooth operation of our business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with cash management processes, including cash flow projections and online banking.
- Coordinate an effective, efficient, and timely month-end close process, including ownership of the general ledger, preparation of variance analysis, and other relevant reporting insights.
- Prepare technical accounting analysis on non-standard transactions and new accounting pronouncements, including impact on existing processes and systems.
- Ensure CRA information returns and tax payments are filed by due dates.
- Establish and enhance formal processes for internal controls.
- Provide leadership to the Finance team, focusing on continual performance improvement, staff development, and succession planning.
- Support cross-functional initiatives by assisting in the design and implementation of related financial processes.
- Review and approve employee expenses in accordance with the company policy.
Administrative Duties:
- Create, review, and update company policies, employee handbook, workplace rules with reference to local laws and regulations and major customer's requirements.
- Review Company's property and liability insurance, Cargo Insurance, marine cargo insurance, and liaise with insurance brokers for annual renewal.
- Review Employee Benefits (extended health & dental) programs with insurance broker for annual renewal.
- Experience working with remote execs and teams;
- Experience in a high-growth company is a considerable asset.
