Reporting to the Manager, Health Information Services, this individual will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient and same-day care records, adhering to provincial deadlines and CIHI standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coding and Abstracting: Accurately and efficiently code and abstract all inpatient and same-day care records, ensuring compliance with provincial deadlines and CIHI standards.
  • Release of Information: Process requests for patient health information, adhering to legislative requirements, including the Personal Health Information Act and other related legislation and policies.
  • Privacy Delegate: Perform duties as a Privacy Delegate, ensuring the confidentiality and security of patient health information.
  • Third-Party Billing: Identify and prepare reports for third-party and non-insured patient billings, forwarding information to the business office for invoice preparation.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on inpatient, emergency, and same-day care discharges, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and completeness of health records and data.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain records of physician deficiencies and print physicians' reports, as required.
  • Chart Management: Scan health records into data systems, verify accurate information on admission/discharge forms, and collect applicable charges upon discharge.
  • Support Services: Assist the Manager, Health Information Services with medical and medico-legal audits, and provide support with health information clerk/receptionist duties.
  • Standardized Charting: Establish and maintain a system of standardized chart order, retrieval, and filing.
  • Transcription Services: Complete transcription duties, as required.
  • Customer Service: Respond to emergency calls/codes, greet and direct patients and visitors, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Compliance: Comply with provincial productivity standards and perform sundry duties as assigned.
