As an Educational Assistant for Children with Special Needs, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in a diverse and inclusive school community. The Peel District School Board is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, and we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team.
This role involves working with students who require support with physical and developmental needs, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, and other developmental disabilities. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting students with special needs in a classroom setting
- Assisting with toileting, lifting, transferring, feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene
- Developing and implementing individualized plans to meet the unique needs of each student
- Working closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive support system
- Providing emotional support and encouragement to students
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary certification in a relevant field, such as Special Education or Child and Youth Work
- Direct experience working with students with special needs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Additional Skills and Assets:
- School-based experience is an asset
