As a Tax Claims Associate at Stewart Title, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of tax, water, and common expense claims for our insureds. This fixed-term contract position offers an exciting opportunity to join a leading title insurance provider and contribute to the success of our Claims Department.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting practices and be proficient in performing tax and water calculations. They will also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work well in a team environment.

In this hybrid role, you can expect to spend 1-2 days per week in-person at our Toronto office. As a member of our Claims Team, you will be responsible for reviewing claims, preparing cheque requisitions, and communicating with insureds and municipalities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Reviewing tax, water, and common expense claims to determine coverage
  • Performing tax and water calculations
  • Preparing cheque requisitions for covered claims
  • Requesting additional documentation as needed
  • Preparing files for recovery
  • Contacting insureds, law firms, and municipalities for information and results
  • Handling general claim inquiry calls
  • Sending follow-up status requests on pending files
Requirements
  • Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma
  • 1-3 years relevant experience in real estate (an asset)
  • Knowledge of accounting practices
  • Full understanding of closing procedures, including Statement of Adjustments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Good computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
