Special Needs School Bus Driver Position

Job Summary
As a Special Needs School Bus Driver for Horry County Schools, you will be responsible for safely transporting students with special needs to and from school. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, patience, and ability to work with students who may have behavioral or emotional challenges.
Essential Duties
- Supervise students on the bus, maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
- Keep accurate records, including time sheets and mileage reports.
- Cooperate with investigations of liability related to accidents involving school buses.
- Assist with details related to pupil insurance coverage.
- Establish and maintain a positive relationship with students and parents.
- Keep the bus clean and well-maintained.
- Drive the bus safely, adhering to state and county guidelines.
Other Duties
The holder of a Commercial Driver's License must comply with Horry County Schools and Federal requirements related to alcohol and controlled substances testing.

Minimum Qualifications
- Meet the NCLB requirements for a paraprofessional, including a minimum of 60 college credit hours or an Associate's Degree or Paraprofessional certificate.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Hold a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no more than four points against their driving record in the previous 12 months.
- Maintain a current DOT Physical as determined by the district.
- Satisfactorily complete the state school bus driver training course and receive a School Bus Driver's Certificate.
- Pass the School Bus Driver Physical Performance Test (PPT).
- Provide proof of American Citizenship or Employment Authorization.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands of this job include standing, reaching, walking, sitting, stooping, and lifting up to 125 pounds. Additional requirements include exiting the bus through the rear emergency exit, dragging 125 pounds 30 feet in 30 seconds, and performing other physical tasks as outlined in the job description.
Work Environment
This job requires working in a school bus environment, which may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and other physical demands. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
