About This Opportunity

Black & McDonald's Southern Ontario team is growing, and we're seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will work closely with our Chief Estimator to prepare estimates for construction projects, advise on tendering procedures, and coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed estimates of probable costs for construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, and recommend awarding contracts.
  • Establish and maintain tendering processes, cost monitoring, and reporting systems.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders.
  • Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, and project meetings.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to prepare economic feasibility studies.
  • Maintain industry presence to ensure continuity of work.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technology in the mechanical contracting industry.
  • Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
  • Travel to various sites or clients to undertake the above responsibilities.
Requirements
  • 10-15 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of a $5M value or higher.
  • Graduate of Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience, or qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with several years' experience and previous estimating experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of contract management, construction scheduling, planning, and execution, trade fluency, organization, and time management.
  • Self-driven leadership abilities and ability to work with deadlines.
  • P.Eng. or CET would be considered an asset.
