Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team at Northwest Territories Power Corporation. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on diesel generator sets and associated equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel generator sets and associated equipment, including pumps, compressors, radiators, heat exchangers, lubricating oil systems, fuel oil systems, and cooling systems.
  • Conduct minor and major overhauls on diesel engines, including EMD, MTU Series 4000, and Cat 3500 series engines.
  • Ensure the safety of yourself and others by adhering to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety program, Environment program, and NTPC's safety culture.
  • Collaborate with the team to determine generation program objectives, provide input to group financial and program planning, and assess and coordinate unit workload and priorities.
  • Maintain and repair small, medium, and large size diesel engines, generators, and auxiliary equipment as per Corporation guidelines.
  • Complete and/or assist with scheduled overhauls in a timely and professional manner according to Corporation and Manufacturer standards.
  • Make routine trips to remote satellite plants for inspection, preventative maintenance, installation, and repairs to equipment and to complete various tests as required.
  • Complete trip and equipment reports, prepare required parts lists for diesel maintenance and fuel and oil inventories, provide distributed labor data, and ensure valid travel and freight costing within our CMMS program.
  • Provide accurate assessment of equipment and diesel plants and troubleshoot various mechanical problems both on site and over the telephone.
  • Provide assistance to other trades and contractors as required and provide guidance and training to operational staff for trouble shooting of large gas or diesel engines.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in the performance of work, maintain all tools and equipment in good working condition, ensure compliance to all safety programs, health and safety legislation, and Corporation Safety Rules in the completion of work activities.
  • Provide training to and receive training from co-workers and perform other related duties as determined by the work group in consultation with the Director, Thermal Region.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic with three years' experience with repair, maintenance, and operation of diesel generators and related equipment required, or Journeyman Automotive Technician with five years' experience with repair, maintenance, and operation of diesel generators and related equipment required. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Valid NWT Class 5 driver's license or equivalent required.
  • Must undergo a successful criminal background check.
  • Must have the ability to diagnose problems and propose solutions.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of mechanical equipment, including manufacturer's manuals and parts books.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form, as well as work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $45.15/hr.-$54.86/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $6,184 per annum. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental benefits, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days, and a defined benefits pension plan. Relocation assistance may be provided.
