Transformative Data Engineer Role

The Globe and Mail is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to drive the transformation and optimization of our data ecosystem. As a key player in architecting scalable and efficient data pipelines, you will integrate advanced analytics and machine learning models into our infrastructure, unlocking actionable insights from our governed data.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and implement robust data pipelines using Snowflake, AWS, and Databricks.
  2. Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to devise elegant solutions for complex data challenges.
  3. Implement encryption, access controls, and compliance measures to safeguard data and contribute to defining the organization's Data Governance framework.
  4. Fine-tune queries, indexing, and ETL processes to transform raw data into actionable insights with maximum efficiency.
  5. Manage, prepare, and structure data to support ingestion by machine learning models, enabling our AI initiatives.
  6. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, automation, and efficiency across data teams and mentor team members.
Qualifications:
  1. Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable data architectures, with a strong focus on data lakes and data warehouses.
  2. Experience in building and optimizing ETL pipelines using tools like Airflow, NiFi, or custom Python scripts.
  3. Hands-on experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  4. Deep knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices.
  5. Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and optionally Scala or Java for big data processing frameworks.
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
