We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Manager, Mine Planning to join our Technical Services Department in Sudbury, Ontario. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing mine operations, including mine design, infrastructure/systems design, ground control, seismic risk management, ventilation, capital planning, and definition drilling.
Your expertise will be utilized to create business plans that play a critical role in disclosing Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves as per stock exchange regulations, develop Master Plans and Budget Plans, and formulate exploration plans.
Key Responsibilities- Accountable for Ontario Operations budget business planning, operational planning, and forecasts.
- Accountable for Ontario Operations technical risks management, ensuring technical controls exist and are working as per internal and external standards.
- Develop first principles models to support Ontario Operations budget defenses for production, headcount, fleet sizing, operating costs, and capital.
- Support Ontario Operations with technical support to develop continuous improvement projects aiming safer and more productive operations, with a competitive cost structure.
- Responsible for the safety and performance for the in-mine execution of technical support services staff in the areas of surveying, ventilation, rock mechanics, seismic monitoring, backfill, stope planning, and geology for all Ontario Mines and operate as technical risk control owner for major unwanted events such as seismic risks and water management as per in HIRA and Ontario regulation programs.
- Ensure Ontario Operations compliance to long-term plans and budget plans, acting as a steward of strategy for operations.
- Provide strategic direction to mining plants, continually finding ways to safely meet or exceed production commitments while working through mine plan disruptions and unforeseen plan interruptions.
- Provide technical oversight to growth projects (FEL) to ensure owners technical assurance and report on monthly production and compliance to plans.
- Ensure the capability of all direct report engineering and technical specialist staff meets the minimum expected performance level for Vale. Coach, mentor, develop the team, and oversee the Ontario MTS Engineer in Training program.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in mine planning and operations. The ideal candidate will have:
- An undergraduate degree in Engineering, preferably mining, or Geology.
- P. Eng or P. Geo certification.
- Knowledge of business planning cycles.
- Mineral finance, EBITDA, simple and free cash flow, budget drivers, cutoff policies, underground mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and a high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
- Working experience with engineering planning software such as Deswik.
- Working knowledge of mining standards, guidance documents, and Ontario Regulations.
