About the Job

We are seeking a Manager of Automation and Reliability Services to join our IT Operations and Engineering team at Staples Canada.

In this role, you will be responsible for setting the standards, direction, and technology choices for how we automate the builds, deployments, monitoring, and alerting for all Enterprise IT applications and systems.

The team will define and implement best practices and blueprints to be used by various Engineering groups across IT. You will socialize and evangelize the best practices within the organization to raise the profile of the DevOps group and have it seen as an essential resource for any Engineering group.

This role requires the ability to work with both legacy and modern processes, as well as on-premise and cloud technologies. You will also be responsible for growing and developing the DevOps associates within the team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and mentor associates through proper task delegation and active observation and interaction.
  • Evaluate performance of assigned associates via the PDR process.
  • Recruit new headcount for the team resulting from expansion and/or to backfill due to attrition (voluntary and involuntary) within applications group.
  • Address and manage associate performance concerns if required.
  • Manage 3rd party vendors in the support of DevOps engineering tasks, including daily management of consultants and temporary resources who are on contract.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or equivalent working experience in software development.
  • 5+ years of DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering related experience.
  • 5+ years of Kubernetes experience.
  • 3+ years of working with a public cloud (Microsoft Azure preferred, but AWS or GCP are acceptable).
  • 3-5 years of software development life cycle.
  • Solid business communication and analysis.
  • 2+ years of experience managing or directing peer associates in a lead role.
  • Experience in the retail sector is preferred, however equivalent experience in other sectors within a software development context will also be considered.
