About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Horticulture Technician to join our team at Ag Jobs Canada. As a Horticulture Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the grounds and gardens at our facility, ensuring they are well-manicured and visually appealing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the gardens, grounds, and habitats at our facility, including weeding, planting, dead heading, raking, watering, light pruning, and other garden maintenance tasks.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools/equipment, and mobile equipment such as trimmers, blowers, tractors, and attachments.
  • Identify and report all safety hazards and incidents to supervisors.
  • Provide excellent customer service by answering public inquiries about plants, gardens, and general information.
  • Attend department meetings, training sessions, and company functions as required.
  • Provide occasional support for events hosted at our facility.
  • Perform snow removal and ice management.
  • Apply and clean-up Pickle mix.
  • Maintain sand bins.
  • Participate in additional training and professional development opportunities as required.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years' experience in landscaping is required.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Class 5 Driver's license or equivalent is required.
  • Landscape Gardener certificate preferred.
  • Fall Arrest Certificate is an asset.
  • Aerial Work Platform Certificate is an asset.
  • Skid steer operators' certificate is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid is an asset.
  • Equipment operation and power/non-powered hand tools experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge and ability to identify plants.
  • A safety-conscious mindset and demonstrated safe work practice experience.
  • Ability to navigate changing priorities.
  • Willingness to answer visitor questions and participate in engagement opportunities.
  • Comfort listening to and asking for direction about assigned tasks.
  • Flexibility to perform tasks around busy event schedules.
Working Conditions
  • Extended periods of time walking to work sites across our facility.
  • Bending, squatting, and kneeling for extended periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements such as raking, shoveling, and pruning.
  • Pushing and pulling up to 10-40 lbs., unassisted.
  • Lifting to 50lbs.
  • Working on uneven/slippery surfaces.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme cold weather and physical work in very hot weather.
  • Prolonged noise and vibrations while operating equipment.
  • Exposure to exhaust fumes in an outdoor environment.
  • Will be required to wear appropriate PPE for assigned tasks.
