Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the University of British Columbia. The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational or experimental biology and a passion for gene regulation.

Job Summary:

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work in the de Boer lab, a mixed computational/experimental group studying gene regulation using synthetic genomics and machine learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing, performing, and analyzing high-throughput chemical screens, developing genomics technologies, and reconstructing gene regulatory networks.

Responsibilities:
  • Optimize, perform, and analyze high-throughput chemical screens
  • Develop genomics technologies, including reporter assays, DNA synthesis, and genome engineering
  • Reconstruct gene regulatory networks and perform GRN inference
  • Single-cell RNA-seq, perturb-seq, and/or other transcriptomic analysis
  • Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics analysis
  • Machine learning/AI; making, evaluating, and interpreting models
  • Analyze genetics data, including predicting variant effects, stratifying patients, and identifying desired patients for recall
  • Design, synthesize, and test regulatory or protein-coding DNA sequences
  • Analyze data and present findings in reports, publications, and presentations at local and international conferences
  • Train and mentor lab personnel, including supervising a wet lab technician
  • Human pluripotent stem cell culture, including maintenance, expansion, and characterization
  • Cell differentiation and culture
  • Genetic engineering of mammalian cells
  • Contribute to cutting-edge knowledge in the scientific community
Qualifications:
  • PhD or MD obtained within the last 5 or 10 years, respectively
  • Strong research background, as demonstrated by past publications, accomplishments, and references
  • Background in computational or experimental biology, or both
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
