About the Role:
This is a regular part-time support staff position within the Centre of Access Programs at Lambton College. The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week at an hourly rate of $26.46. This is a less than 12 month position, meaning it is a permanent role working 8 months of the year, typically from the last week of August to the last week of April.
Key Responsibilities:
The Learning Specialist will assist students with disabilities to maximize their learning potential. This involves advocating, intervening, and acting on behalf of students with faculty, other College students, and College-wide services. The incumbent will be responsible for modifying course outlines, tests, and assignments in collaboration with faculty.
Accountabilities:
- Modifies course materials, tests, and assignments in collaboration with faculty
- Develops and recommends policies and procedures for the administration of the work unit
- Provides data to decision makers to determine the best course of action
- Responds to the needs of service users by coordinating all details of learning initiatives
- Other responsibilities as required
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a two-year Educational Assistant diploma, Developmental Service Worker diploma, Child and Youth Worker diploma, Social Service Worker Diploma, or 2-3 years of carpentry/welding experience. Additionally, they will have 1-3 years of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, persons with significant learning challenges, and experience in the teaching/tutoring environment. Mental health training is an asset. The candidate will also possess knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies, Microsoft Teams, and D2L experience is required. They will have excellent interpersonal communication skills, a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and patience. The ability to work and make decisions independently, as well as demonstrating a high level of initiative, is essential. Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills are also required.
