Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Educator to join our team at BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services. As a Clinical Educator, you will play a critical role in delivering and evaluating education programs for clinicians and staff, providing direct clinical instruction, and supporting students and staff in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Education Program Development and Delivery
    • Design and deliver education programs for clinicians and staff, utilizing educational theory and knowledge to promote skill development and competency.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and review learning resources and educational reference documents.
  • Direct Clinical Instruction
    • Provide direct clinical instruction to new and existing staff, facilitating learning by role modeling clinical information system and clinical workflow skills and practices.
    • Assess individual and group learning needs, observing activities, discussing clinical information system use, issues, and implications.
  • Student and Staff Support
    • Support students, preceptors, peer mentors, and mentees in their learning journey, using teaching and learning principles and a program planning and evaluation process.
    • Develop and review learning resources and educational reference documents to support team members and staff/providers.
  • Evaluation and Quality Improvement
    • Participate in the evaluation of the effectiveness of clinical information system education programs, activities, and resources.
    • Collaborate with staff and learning team members to determine times, frequency, and duration of education sessions, and maintain records of attendance.
Requirements
  • Qualifications
    • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM) or current practicing registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BCCNM for relevant mental health positions.
    • Three (3) years' recent, related teaching experience and/or group facilitation relevant to the clinical area or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Knowledge of organization's policies, procedures, and standards of care.
    • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, engage, and lead in a classroom setting.
    • Demonstrated adult education delivery experience.
    • Demonstrated experience with learner assessment and providing feedback.
    • Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.
    • Strong computer literacy and proficiency with current computer applications and equipment as well as ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
    • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking in approach to teaching.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop educational materials.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, either one-on-one and/or in-groups, both verbally and in writing.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills as well as demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in collaboration with others.
    • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
    • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
