Job Title: AC Mitigation Engineer

We are seeking an experienced AC Mitigation Engineer to join our team at Stantec Consulting International Ltd. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing AC interference modeling, designing AC interference mitigation systems, and conducting third-party reviews of reports and designs related to corrosion, cathodic protection, and AC interference.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Modeling of complex pipeline and powerline geometries using specialized computer software (CDEGS)
  • Design of AC mitigation systems to reduce the risk of electrical shock to pipeline personnel and integrity risks to the pipeline
  • Assessment of CP and AC interference survey data
  • Design of AC and DC interference mitigation systems
  • Third-party review of CP and AC interference designs, reports, and inspection and commissioning data
  • Performing engineering calculations (resistance, current distribution, ground potential rise, etc.)
  • Coordinating engineering aspects of installation of AC mitigation and cathodic protection systems
  • Developing detailed designs as required and collaborating with drafting personnel to prepare design drawing packages
  • Potential field work consisting of soil resistivity testing, structure potentials, right-of-way evaluations, and constructability assessments for AC mitigation and CP systems
  • Preparing technical assessment and design reports, as well as procedures and specifications
  • Supporting maintenance and updates to assessment criteria in accordance with evolving industry practices and staying abreast of emerging technologies
  • Delivering accurate, timely, and cost-effective integrity services that meet client, Stantec, and industry/regulatory standards
  • Staying current on applicable pipeline and integrity codes and standards
Requirements:
  • Good understanding of AC interference, including field data gathering and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Canadian and/or U.S. standards, practices, and applicable legislation
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency and attention to detail
  • Sound interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven initiative, flexibility, and adaptability
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation
  • Excellent computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word, and mapping tools such as Google Earth and AbaData
  • AMPP (NACE) certification and CP experience are an asset
  • University degree in an engineering discipline (electrical engineering is preferred)
  • Licensed P.Eng
  • Minimum 3-5 years of engineering experience in AC mitigation
  • Minimum 1-2 years of modeling experience with SES CDEGS software and/or other software
