Job Title: Veterinary Technician, Animal Care

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our Animal Care and Veterinary Service team at the University of Ottawa. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality veterinary care to a variety of laboratory animal species, ensuring the health and well-being of our animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily clinical and preventive veterinary care, including anesthetic and surgical procedures, and biological specimen collection.
  • Initiate and implement treatment plans in consultation with veterinarians, and provide primary care of animals with health issues.
  • Monitor treatment progress and provide feedback to veterinarians and research staff.
  • Assist with physical examinations, vaccinations, and clinical assessments, and perform routine sample collection procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete animal clinical case records, document retention, and archiving.

Requirements:

  • Diploma from a CVMA recognized Veterinary Technical program.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree or post-secondary degree from a relevant discipline is desirable.
  • Certification with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science (CALAS) is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as writing skills for contribution to internal standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingualism - French and English (spoken and written).
