About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team at Smith + Andersen. As a Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing building systems, preparing drawings and specifications, and collaborating with other disciplines to deliver projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design building systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, fire protection systems, plumbing and draining systems, and specialized plumbing systems.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and reports necessary to deliver a project.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines, including structural, architectural, and electrical, to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Develop layouts and design of mechanical building systems, including equipment selection and sizing.
  • Prepare calculations to size ductwork, gas, HVAC, piping, plumbing, and drainage, and incorporate calculations into technical drawings.
  • Respond to internal and external communication regarding project or design status, and report to the principal and/or project manager regarding design status.
Requirements
  • Two or more years of direct industry experience in the field of mechanical building services.
  • Diploma/Degree from a mechanical building services/engineering program.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks Manage, and Dynamo software.
  • Working knowledge of municipal and provincial codes and authorities.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients.
