Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Product Manager to lead the development and maintenance of our C&I Energy Storage product category. As the platform owner, you will be responsible for driving growth, market share, and profitability through strategic planning, product design, and lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain the product category strategy, including setting objectives, allocating resources, and defining product requirements.
  • Oversee the annual and long-term strategic plans for the category, ensuring alignment with business goals and market trends.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather customer insights, market data, and technical expertise to inform product development and positioning.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including sales, marketing, and engineering teams.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to ensure Generac's products remain competitive and innovative.
  • Develop business cases for new product development programs and manage the product lifecycle, including phase-in/phase-out timing and product/platform rationalization decisions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in engineering, business, or marketing, with 4+ years of management experience.
  • Strong technical depth and communication skills, with the ability to gather use cases, voice of customer, and persona requirements.
  • Comprehension of market data and leading technical indicators to drive decisions and strategic proposals.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.).
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Prior experience managing hardware and software offerings.
  • Experience with P&L management.
  • Experience working in a technically-driven environment in the manufacturing sector.
  • Experience in one or more of the following Energy Storage System technologies: batteries, battery management systems, power conversion systems, PV, fire suppression systems, thermal management systems, and firmware.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, including UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 70, DER interconnect standards, and generally with UL, NFPA, CSA, FCC, and IEC standards governing energy storage systems.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
